Why is that so much trees falling in Bangalore during rain?

When I came to Bangalore and during first rain, I noticed something. So many tree falling during rain. I was quite eager to understand why is it happening. Here are some of my observations.

1) Bangalore soil is very soft and without stones.

If you compare the soil of Bangalore with some other parts of India, Bangalore soil is appearing soft and less stones are there. This soil may be good for planting and getting better yield for cultivation but stones are always required so that roots grows around and it holds the bigger trees.

2) Many imported trees:

Many beautiful flowered trees in Bangalore roads are actually imported from other countries to give a pretty look for the city. During various seasons, various roads appear yellow, red, pink etc due to the flower color in that area. And this trees are not adopted for the windy or rainy climate like in Bangalore yet.

3) Soil characteristic of absorbing water.
The water absorbs water quite easily on the small shower itself which makes trees unable to adapt the climate changes. Usually trees gets newer roots during first rain to adopt to the climate change.

Recommendations
  • Never stand under a tree during rain.
  • Don't park vehicles near trees during rain.
  • Inform BESCOM is you see a tree has shown symptom of falling.
