First time in Bangalore? How people may treat you as an outsider who doesnt know Kannada.

Be polite, one of the most friendly people here.

Bengalurians are one of the most friendly and helpful people I have ever met. You might have heard that people force Kannada here, but all on quora. Talk to any one nicely, they will revert you the same way. Even you can talk in Hindi to localites, any one talks Hindi here.

Then why am I hearing so much about topic 'learn Kannda if you are in Bangalore'?

This is for the people who are staying in Bangalore from years and who are not ready to recognise localites and their culture. After marriage, we stay in a new house and years later too, if you dont mingle with the people there, how they feel?

So, my recommendation is, if you have plan of staying here for long time, please learn the language. Its bnot only about Bangalore, any where in this world. When you mingle with people in thier local language, you get more respect because localites can understand your feeling better.

About Author: Please note, I am not a Born Kannadiga, In Bangalore for more than 10 years, I learned reading Kannada using 30 days learn Kannada book, I can speak Kannada well too. And definitely, I get good response from people when I communicate in local language.
